Q

Who can take lessons at Singleton Piano Studio?

A

Lessons are offered to students of all ages.

Q

What is the best age for a child to begin lessons?

A   The answer is different for each child, but generally by the age of four or five children are ready to begin formal lessons. These lessons involve many activities away from the piano that help the child internalize the many musical concepts involved in learning to play the piano.

Q   What styles of music are taught at Singleton Piano Studio?
A   All styles of music are taught, although the core curriculum is developed around classical music. Students also learn folk music, jazz and popular music.

Q   Do students learn music theory and history?
A   An integral part of the curriculum involves the study of music theory and history. These are woven into each lesson and the literature being studied.

Q   Can adults who have never had previous lessons learn to play the piano?
A   Yes. Adults can be very successful at learning to play the piano. Their conceptual abilities and self-directed approach to learning are very important to an adult’s success. Adults experience some frustration with their physical abilities when learning to play the piano. Patience and realistic expectations are necessary for an adult to be successful.

Q   Can students practice at home on an electronic keyboard?
A   While it is possible to learn to play the piano at the beginning stages on an electronic keyboard, it is essential that students practice on an acoustic piano. Beautiful tone and musical details can not be produced on an electronic instrument.

Q   What activities are available to students?
A

Students can participate in a variety of activities.  Monthly studio classes offer students the opportunity to perform in an informal situation in preparation for recitals or competitions.  Annual recitals, Guild Auditions and activities sponsored by the Ohio Music Teachers Association are available to all students.

Q   How many students are currently studying at Singleton Piano Studio?
A   Between 45 and 50.
